  • In 1864, President Lincoln is reelected for his second term in office.
  • In 1960, President John F. Kennedy is elected president, making him the youngest man ever to be elected president to the United States. He was also the first Catholic to become president.
  • In 1793, after being a royal palace for more than two centuries, the Louvre Museum opened.
  • In 1900, Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind, is born.
